Did you know that June 11th is the first International Yarn Bombing Day?
This initiative was started by Joann Matvichuk who lives in Lethbridge, Alberta (Canada). The hope is that by having yarn bombers around the world put up pieces of graffiti knitting and crochet on the same day, as a collective group. If you are are a knitter or a crocheter, I hope that you will join others in a day of world yarn domination (one of the main goals behind writing my book Yarn Bombing)!
If you’d like to get involved, there is an informative Facebook group and a website: http://iybd.blogspot.com/. The Ravelry knit graffiti, yarn bombing, and guerilla knitter groups should have local listings as well.

We’re doing what we can to promote the event, but are afraid of getting arrested if we attempt to put up works where we live… We’ve posted on our blog about the event though: http://blog.bettaknit.com/news-2/international-yarn-bombing-day-june-11-2011/
Congratulations on the recent media attention. We really look forward to seeing plenty of photos on June 12th!!
Thanks for all the inspiration here… always something new to see. I’ve got my needles ready for June 11 and have also been spreading the word.
We’ve got a project planned for Colorado Springs, CO that is getting help from 20+ locals and a few out-of-towners. Details are at videoknitter.weebly.com.
I’ve been talking the project up to generate interest in the community and flush out additional fiber artists to help. When I tell them we’re doing it to celebrate IYBD, many look at me in amazement. “There’s and INTERNATIONAL day for this?”
Thanks for naming the day.

Hello from AUstria!
On 11. June, I´ll crochet a big net between Appletrees in Mühlviertel, upperaustria.
Hi,
Friends and I have been inspired by sitings of yarn bombing around Australia, Mandy and Leanne’s book and your dedication of 11th June. We’ve been preparing for a couple of weeks and looking forward to decorating our NSW country town. What’s the best way for me to share our accomplishments with you?
Cheers, Anne
Anne, I’d love to post your photos. Send them to leanne@yarnbombing.com and let me know who to credit!

After people yanrbomb what happens with the works of art? Wouldn’t it be nice if they were taken down and donated to a women’s shelter or such so they can use the lovely works for blankets, etc?
Is anyone in Chicago? I’m not, but I think this moose seriously needs some leg warmers.

You know, this is the first time I’ve heard about this. I spent the afternoon of June 11 knitting in public, which is about as bomb-y as I’m willing to get in my town. It attracted quite a lot of attention, too, so now I don’t feel like a freak so much anymore. SUPPORT PUBLIC KNITTING! Thanks, all. Calendars are marked for the next few years.

My grandmother used to knitting every day. It’s a bit wacky. But then I started to knit as to memorize her. Too bad I didn’t know about this international yarn bombing day, unless I would exhibit the best yarns my granny has ever knitted.
Wow! I used to do this in my garden but I have never heard of it on this scale. I do like the phrases- that pieces of such beauty can be placed like bombs. It reminds me of the phrase “guerilla gardening”- makes desolate spaces prettier with plants and flowers.
That is the best phrase I have heard with the word “bombing” in it. Peace.
