@SAM might i suggest you and your scissors start an international day of yarn bomb disarming?

it could be the day after IYBD or the next Saturday, maybe a month later....

thus you would also have an opportunity to public news recognition without looking like someone trying to steal the thunder of this "brightening your day" group

you could even get a few laughs if you tried...
imagine how differently you can be perceived

either A BIG pair of scissors in the hands of a "maniac" saying "im gonna cut em all down"
or
a concerned citizen in a bulky suit (im thinking balloons, long thin ones, under over sized sweat suit... natural grey or even dyed black to look like a bomb disposal suit)

with a tool kit including tiny scissors and tweezers carefully snipping a piece of yarn and breathing a sigh of relief when it doesnt explode

with a little showmanship on your part, you could turn a 30 second cut job into a 15 to 20 minute show (if you leave your hat on the ground i wouldn't be surprised if you get a few tips)

Hi Sam,

Yes, it is your right to feel that way. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Yarn bombing is not only about visual beauty or territory, it is about being active participants in the places where we live. Betsy Greer has written a wonderful post that I would encourage you to read: http://craftivism.com/blog.html/2009/03/yarn-bombing-craftivism-knittivismits-all-just-about-making-life-prettier/

Yours is the very first negative comment that we've received here on the yarn bombing site, and I applaud you for being respectful to the community here by stating your opinion and understanding that we have a different viewpoint. I encourage you to go start your own community for snippers - we generally only have yarn bombers here. :)

I'd rather see the post. I carry scissors in my handbag, so that I can cut off all the eyesores as I walk around the city. I guess that is my right, just as you think yours is to force your idea of beauty on the whole world.
We are forming our own army.... to reclaim the world as we like it.
Guerilla artists versus the scissor saviors.
    Go, go snippers. Reclaim!!

Hi Ann,

I believe that you've chatted with Janice at Arsenal Pulp Press already. She should have some recommendations on how we could be involved.

Thanks!

I am wondeing whether the authors of Yarn Bombing might be on a book tour in the US this coming fall. If so, I'd love to arrange a public lecture, slide show, event with the authors sponsored by our Cultural Studies Program at Columbia College Chicago. As part of our program, we are sponsoring a Cfrativism project this academic year. We'd love to have a lecture/event with the authors.

Please feel free to contact me.
