Bombing Hay-on-Wye

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Family legend has it that my relatives came from Wales. This must be why I felt an instant attachment to Yarn Bombing on Hay-on-Wye.

This mysterious knitter/crocheter says “I am hoping to inspire people, regardless of age or gender, to take up crochet and knitting, and to share their art!” Sounds like a good mission to me.

I particularly love the wonderful crochet piece that resembles a tidal pool on the ‘honesty bookshop’. Honestly, why doesn’t every town have a book store like this?

Be sure to take the quiz on the front page (only open for another 1204 days!) “Do you appreciate the art and intention of yarn bombing?” Indeed.

PS. If you are in the Denver area, don’t forget about the Ladies Fancywork/Yarn Bombing book event tomorrow night at Fancy Tiger!

Identify me.

Kim from Round Rock, Texas has sent me this photo:

mysterypole

We’ve been trying to identify the mystery knitter. Since it is in Texas and the colours are candy coloured and bright, I’m inclined to think that it is the work of Magda Sayeg, but I could stand corrected.

Anyone out there recognize the artist’s style?

tree in orange sweater

Lisa B. Segal from Brooklyn, New York was kind enough to send me these photos of what she calls the ‘Sweater Tree’. This tree is on 16th street between 7th and 8th streets in Brooklyn.

She says, “It arrived just before Christmas and Hanukkah, and has been delighting the neighbors for weeks”

Anyone out there know the mystery bomber? I like the snappy choice of buttons!
