Brightness on a rainy day

daviegarden1

Quick snaps of an installation in my neighbourhood – yarn bombing at the community garden at Davie and Denman. A little birdie tells me it is the work of Jessica Glesby, creator of the Identity School. We’ll be posting an interview with Jessica in the weeks to come on the school. She has been teaching the art of knit graffiti to school kids in East Vancouver.

I spotted this from the bus on my commute home from work on friday night. Everyone I know seems to have mentioned it to me in the last few days. I love how wild, wooly, and colourful this piece is – perfect for these rainy Vancouver days that we’ve been having!

I love the length of this installation. From these photos, who would ever know it was summer?!! We have had some unseasonably warm weather here south of Seattle by a handful of miles – but today, it is overcast and I am relishing the coolness. First time in weeks that I really needed an outer layer it seems

One of the best things about this is watching passersby walk up tentatively and reach out hands to touch it. I was waiting at the bus stop there recently and it elicited delighted giggles from several pedestrians.

Hi Lauren – I didn’t get a chance to say hi to you at Kim’s tonight, but I wanted to say I LOVE your book and Soapbox Girls! I know Signy so it was fun to read the bits where you mentioned her. I’m so glad that people are touching this installation. It is such a striking piece – it takes a lot to get attention in the Davie corridor!

Lady P – glad to hear that you’ve got some sun – we’re expecting it to get warm again here on Friday.

  6. This is lovely. :)

    Looking forward to the interview.
